Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-10-03
1. About these Terms
These Terms of Use set out the conditions for using the iOS app Uchistock (the “App”), provided by Ask White, an individual developer in Japan (“we”, “us”). By installing or using the App you agree to these Terms and to Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA), which applies alongside these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. What the App does
The App is a home inventory app. It lets you record the food in your fridge and freezer and household supplies such as detergent and toilet paper — what you have, how much and their dates — and shows dates, sends alerts and builds a shopping list.
3. Free features and Uchistock Pro
- The core features — adding items, managing locations, colour-coded dates and sorting, date alerts, recording “used” and “bought”, the shopping list, recipe search, search and filters, and iCloud backup — are free. There is no limit on the number of items or on the history period, and we will not move these features behind a paywall later.
- Uchistock Pro is a one-time (non-consumable) in-app purchase. The price is ¥500 in Japan; in other countries and regions it is the equivalent price shown in the App Store. It is not a subscription and is never renewed or charged automatically. The App contains no ads.
- Uchistock Pro unlocks: barcode entry, adding items from a photo of a receipt or package label, saved sets, starting real-time family sharing, insights, the run-out forecast, emergency stockpile mode, detailed alerts, widgets, themes and CSV export.
- Purchases and payments are handled by Apple. With the same Apple Account you can restore your purchase on a new or reinstalled device using “Restore purchase” in the App.
- Refunds are decided and handled by Apple under Apple’s policies. Please request one through Apple’s Report a Problem. We cannot issue refunds directly.
4. Where your data is stored
- Your data is stored on your device and in your own iCloud (the CloudKit private database), and syncs between devices using the same Apple Account. We do not run any server for app data and cannot see your data.
- Using iCloud requires signing in with an Apple Account and available iCloud storage. iCloud availability, sync timing and storage are provided by Apple and we cannot guarantee them.
5. Family sharing
- Family sharing uses Apple’s iCloud sharing. No sign-up is needed and your data does not pass through any Uchistock server.
- Shared data is stored in the iCloud of the person who started the share (the owner), and only the people the owner invites can view and edit it. Invited people can see and change the shared stock, shopping list and history, so please choose whom you invite with care.
- Starting a share requires Uchistock Pro. Invited family members can join and edit for free, without buying anything.
- The owner can stop sharing or remove participants at any time, and participants can leave at any time. When sharing stops, participants can no longer see the shared data.
6. Camera
- The camera is used only to read barcodes and to read the text on receipts and package labels (and to take an item photo if you choose to).
- Text recognition runs on your device. On iOS 26 or later with Apple Intelligence, item names may be tidied up on the device. Images used for reading are not saved or sent anywhere.
- Recognition results are always shown as candidates on a confirmation screen, and are only added after you check and correct them. Recognition may contain mistakes.
- Barcodes you teach the App are stored on your device and in your iCloud (or the shared space while sharing). No product database is used.
7. Dates and stockpile amounts are guidance (important)
- Date colours, days left and alerts are guidance based on the dates you enter. Whether food is safe to eat must always be judged by you, by checking the package (best-before or use-by date and storage instructions) and the food itself.
- Suggested stockpile amounts (for example 3 L of water per person per day), run-out forecasts and estimated values in insights are general guidance or estimates from the values you enter, and are not guaranteed to be accurate or sufficient.
- Alerts may be late or may not arrive depending on your device’s settings and state (notifications turned off, Focus, power, and so on).
8. External recipe sites
Recipe search opens the search page of an external recipe site using the ingredient names you pick. The App contains no recipes. External sites are governed by their own operators’ terms, and we are not responsible for their content.
9. Prohibited conduct
You may not use the App for unlawful purposes, reverse-engineer, modify or redistribute the App, or interfere with the App or the services of other users or third parties.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
- We do not guarantee that the App will always work correctly, that it is fit for a particular purpose, or that data will never be lost. Please keep iCloud turned on for important data.
- We are not liable for damage arising from your use of the App, except where it is caused by our intent or gross negligence.
- Where damage is caused by our slight negligence, our liability is limited to ordinary damage actually incurred, up to the amount you paid us for the App (the price of Uchistock Pro).
- Any part of these Terms that is invalid under Japan’s Consumer Contract Act or other applicable law applies only to the extent permitted by that law. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for damage caused by our intent or gross negligence, or any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
11. Rights
Copyright and other rights in the App belong to us or the respective rights holders. The data you enter belongs to you.
12. Changes and discontinuation
We may change the App or these Terms. When we change these Terms, we will post the changes and the date on this page, and announce important changes in the App as well. If you keep using the App after a change, you agree to the updated Terms. If we discontinue the App, we will try to give notice in advance. Data stored on your device and in your iCloud stays under your control.
13. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction as the court of first instance for any dispute relating to the App.
